Training material for accessing and working with CEMS GloFAS data

To facilitate the use of the hydrological reanalysis data from the Global Flood Awareness System (GloFAS) of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS), ECMWF has developed training material for accessing and working with GloFAS data. It is freely accessible from a repository of Copernicus Data Tutorials here.

The material, in the form of a Jupyter notebook , demonstrates how to investigate a specific flood event using data from the GloFAS. The example used is the major flood event in Bangladesh in June 2022.

The tutorial is written in the open source python language and goes through the steps to access, download, explore and view the GloFAS data available from the Copernicus Climate Change Service Climate Data Store. All scripts can be easily copied for use and editing in a local environment.

GloFAS is a product of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service. The Joint Research Centre of the European Commission is the entrusted entity responsible for CEMS GloFAS. ECMWF is the designated contractor that executes the GloFAS forecasts and hosts the GloFAS-Information System platform.
